Born on March 1st, 1994, and raised in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, Justin was raised by his single mother, Pattie Mallette, and grandparents, Bruce and Diane Mallette. During his childhood, his father, Jeremy Bieber was distant, but Justin remains in contact with him today. Growing up, Justin attended a Catholic French-language immersion school in Canada and played a variety of sports including soccer, baseball, and his favorite, hockey. He soon learned how to play a variety of instruments: including drums, guitar, piano, and trumpet. He taught himself how to play all four instruments, with some help from his dad and his church’s band. Then he started to videotape him playing instruments as well as singing around the house and posting them to Youtube for his other family members to see. Scooter Braun, currently his manager, found these videos and at 11 years old, Justin and his mom flew to Atlanta to meet and record demo tapes for record labels. Less than one year later, in October 2008, Bieber was signed to Island Records. His first single, “One Time” was released in July of 2009, and his second single, “One Less Lonely Girl” was released in October of the same year.
