After nearly a year and a half of scandal and criminal activity, many people were against Biebs and everything he stood for. They rejected the idea of him succeeding in his endeavors; however after his new and improved respectable demeanor was shown in interviews, he began to regain respect from the public. Writing about uplifting and positive messages and his feelings following his public breakup with Selena Gomez, the album Purpose gives a message of hope and happiness. The songs in the album are a mixture of pop, R&B, with intermixed electronic sounds. It features artists like Halsey, Big Sean, and Travis Scott. The most popular singles included “What Do You Mean”, “Sorry” and “Love Yourself”. “Love Yourself" was the 7th best selling song in the United States in 2016. Purpose officially was released November 13, 2015 and sold 522,000 copies in its first week. It’s reported to be the best selling album of 2015, at 3.1 million copies worldwide. Purpose was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2016 Grammys. The song featuring Skrillex and Diplo titled, “Where Are U Now” won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Justin began the Purpose World Tour on March 9, 2016 and it ends this year, in Tokyo, on September 24, 2017. In total the Purpose Tour will reach over 6 continents and Bieber will perform over 160 shows. The tour has produced around $199 million in sales. When Bieber was in Chicago for a show last April, 2016, the Chicago Tribune described the show by stating, Bieber’s elaborate show was as much about a young man displaying his transformation as a vehicle to showcase his undeniable, exceptional talent as a vocalist and performer. This album signified a change in the way the public, as well as media, perceived Justin as a performer and a man. The Purpose Tour also evoked a new style trend of selling concert merchandise at retail stores. The Purpose Tour had clothing lines at Barneys, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21. The merchandise was similar to the ones sold at the concerts, but also featured new items. To learn more about the Purpose album, tour, or merchandise, visit the official Justin Bieber website.
